HE’D BEEN RIGHT yesterday. Holding Molly in his arms was not a platonic event. Not when his heart kicked up a notch every time he inhaled her perfume. Not when she cuddled her head on his shoulder. Not when he felt her legs press against his while they danced. In a minute he’d need a cold shower.

He scanned the room looking for a distraction and found it. “Take a look over there, Mol,” he whispered, nodding at a dancing couple—a red-haired woman with a fair-haired rancher.

“Whoa!” said Molly. “What do you know! A ceasefire.”

“But for how long?” Sam pulled Molly closer to him again. “Whatever’s eating Travis will have to be resolved before he lets it go.”

“Carla’s up for it,” Molly replied.

Sam glanced down at the woman in his arms, suddenly not caring about the other couple. Molly’s eyes were closed, her long lashes fanning her smooth cheek, her delicate profile almost cameo perfect.

He laughed inwardly. Perhaps she looked delicate on the outside, but Molly was about as delicate as a linebacker on the inside. A strong-minded woman. But he wasn’t complaining. He was goal-oriented himself and liked that characteristic about her. It was one of the traits he’d admired about Adrienne.

The name from the past provided the cold shower he’d been contemplating. How could he have forgotten the price of ambition among some women? He looked at Molly again. Nah, she’d never sacrifice family for career, would she? No. She said she liked children.

And what did it matter? He and Molly had been thrown together for professional reasons and were dedicated to achieving them. So what if he admired her courage? So what if she felt perfect in his arms? Adrienne had moved fluidly with him, too.

None of it meant anything. Certainly not love. Not with Adrienne and not with Molly. He and Molly would each go their own way when the hotel was finally sold. He’d probably network himself back to California, and Molly…well any hotel would be lucky to get her.

In the meantime, however, he’d inhale her sweet fragrance and keep on dancing.
